I have concentrated on figure drawing for the last fifteen years or so and exhibit them regularly in London, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

I mainly use local amateur models and use charcoal, pen and ink, pastel, acrylic and recently have been making original prints based on my figure work. Marshall Anderson said of my work in Art Review~

"Derek Jones is enthralled by the play of light on flesh...... His language of line expresses the magic alchemy of drawing as the form is pulled out of the paper's surface."

I do think that the drawing surface and the actual mark making should reflect the sensual nature of the model and the pose- and much of my work with figure has been a search for sensuous ways of using my media.
